I am a computer programmer who is opposed to the ever-increasing takeover of AI and the imposition of AI tools in the workplace.
AI has become too big for its boots. The endless hype and promotion of the technology has had the effect of turning people off, and the ever increasing use of AI tools is turning people into prompt monkeys: individuals who are outsourcing their thinking to a machine. The name of this site has been chosen to help popularize the term and to draw attention to the issue. If you have turned into one, that’s not a good thing!
AI has its proper uses (e.g. in research) but the foisting of it onto society at large and into our workplaces is having detrimental effects that need to be acknowledged and countered. How we respond will shape all of our futures, whether for better or for worse.
